OCTOBER 2008
WEST LOTHIAN LEAGUE 301 SINGLES
Congratulations to Billy Meikle on winning the 301 double start double tournament
commiserations to Jamie Bishop who narrowly lost out 2-3 in the final sounds like a cracker of a match.
Top check outs on the night were from Micky Rice and Jamie Bishop with 141 finishes.
BATHGATE TRIPLES
McMillans won the Friday night league triples played at the Grange Bar Fauldhouse.
The Eweington from Stoneyburn were the runners up and losing out in the semi finals were
Coppies Bar and the ladies team from the Breich club of Carolanne Speirs, Karen Whyte and Mary Walker. Well done the ladies.
Only maximum to report was hit by Bob Smack it in Gob Kinnon nice to hear your back Bob.
Sorry for the short report but i was further south in a wind swept Berwick.
WEST LOTHIAN INTERNATIONALS!
That's right we have two new names to add to the list of past champions of West Lothian
darts stars.Along side former international Ian McGillvary who played four times for Scotland and of course Scottish Master
Tiger Marshall from Linlithgow and Davie Patterson from Winchburgh a former Scottish singles champion we now have in the youths
international team.
Franky (BOI) Quinn from Armadale and Marc (BREAVEHEART) Campbell from Blackburn. And with
other youth players in the area showing great skill on the dartboard who knows how many might make it to play for their country.
Good on them and i am sure every one in the darts fraternity wishes them all the very best for a very bright future.
All we have to do now is get Marc to sign a county form if he has not done so already the
county needs him. With out a doubt these players are West Lothians future.
BERWICK YOUTH SINGLES CHAMPION
Congratulations to Armadales Frank Quinn who swept the boards winning the the title of Berwick
Youth Champion to go along side his Scottish under 18's title which he won earlier in the year. Next up for Frank is the youth
World Masters and if he can keep this sort of form going who knows a worlds champion in our midst now would that not put West
Lothian Youth on the map. Along these lines can i tell you that there will be a fund raising night for the youth players on
the 8th of Nov in the Breich social club. All the funds generated will go to help West lothian youth players play in more
competitions so come along and support your youth players they are representing you so why not help if you can!
Peter Mcintosh is the man to see he has taken a lot of trouble to organize and raise
money for this worthy cause for this to work he still needs your help so come on even if it put up a prize for the raffle
it all helps!
BERWICK REPORT
A hardy troop of dart players from West Lothian set of to take on the might of the country
with both Scottish and English Internationals out in force this was not going to be a walk in the park (Berwick)
One thing we were sure to win was yes it may come as a surprise but at long last Christine
Mcintosh got her way.She laid out her other halves clothes for the day and did'nt she pick well!
Like a film star entering a Golden Globe Awards Peter Mcintosh did Scotland proud with his
kilt swing and even his dart flights were in tune to his colour sceme he not only looked like a star for the first hour he
was the only West Lothian winner.
Shelley Kearney/Irene Mcinness/Christine Mcintosh/Frank Quinn/Colin Robertson/Shug Rice/
all went out in the first round.
Willie Harraughty/Jim Mitchell/Jamie Bishop/Arran Edwards all managed to round two. After
that only Old Man Mitchell was left standing a last eight quarter final spot was where he went out. At 1-1 and sitting on
tops after 12 darts it saw Paul Knighton miss the bull for a twelve darter,Jim then missed his favourite double top and Paul
checked in 15 darts a good game of darts score Paul 2 Jim 1. 4 x 180 were hit two apiece not a bad game to watch so i am told!
CONGRATULATIONS
Pumpherston Jacks have won their first league match always nice to see a new team in the
league get of the mark. Scott Begley will now have some problems as every one of their players will now be wanting to play
every week ah the joy's of being captain!
FULL MOON OR WHAT!
Just when you thought it was all about the youngsters back come the elder statesmen of the
league to show them they still have teeth ! Jim Barrowman form the West Calder Renagades wins 2-0 and from
the other end of the league you have Mr Tam Ritchie 72 years young recording his sixth straight singles win of the season
for the Stirrup Stane. Bob Hall at 77 years of age still playing for the county 'A'.There sure is life in the old dogs yet.
NICE TO BE BACK!
Not that Davie Aitken alias the Polbeth Hitman has ever been away but a very nice 14 dart
leg including a maximum shows that he is back firing from both barrels. And i am told that it could have been quicker but
that damn bullseye moved again! Looks like the Commercial Travallers have one of their top men back on form.
SPONSORSHIP
What every dart player dreams of and one of West Lothians young darts stars has
got one.
Chris McGregor of
C.M. OPTICAL of WHITBURN.
Is now the proud sponsor of Armadales exciting darts prospect Frank Quinn.
Congratulations to both and i hope that this will be the start of great partnership.
HISTORY MADE K.O. CUP RETAINED
With
four of the leagues very best teams in attendance and with players of International County and Super league experience playing
this title could go to any one of the teams involved in the finals. It saw a terrific struggle take place for the right to
be called champions of the D Tracey K.O. Cup.
The
Travellers from West Calder’s Commercial Inn were up against the Highway men from the Dove hill Arms in Uphall. What
a cracking match with the likes of players Robertson/Thorburn/Deegan/Coulter/Charleston/Nisbet for the Dove Hill. Aitken/Lammie/Bruton/Duncan/Watson/Inglis
for the Travellers.
With each match very hotly contested it saw the advantage going to the dove hill with a
4-2 lead after the singles. This was a lead they did not let slip and they claimed their berth in the final for the second
time in three years a title they won in 2006 by taking the first doubles.
Over on board two it saw the Pumpherston Brigand’s swarming all over the defending
champions McMillan’s Highlanders like Brigand’s looting a ship they were everywhere.
The Brigand's hit McMillan’s hard right from the word go with 20/19/18/18/17 dart
games including a fabulous 135 out on the bull plus a very tidy 120 shanghai on twenties.
But
you don’t get to be League and defending champions of the K.O.Cup without grit
And
determination and boy did they need it. This was like watching Alex Higgins running round the table and hitting everything
only to see Cliff Thorburn slowing it down and grinding out a score! The match was level at 3-3 after the singles. The Highlanders
then took the first doubles match but back came the Brigands and the match was all square once again. With one game to go
you could feel the tension creep in. The Brigands claimed the first leg and looked ready to seal victory but missed doubles
cost them. Now down the wire 4-4 and 1-1 this was a cup match of the very best entertainment nerves, tension support, and
of course groans from the crowd when a player missed. The final double went to McMillan’s and the defending champions
were back in the final again.
FINAL LINE UP WAS
2006 CHAMPIONS DOVEHILL HIGHWAY MEN V MCMILLANS HIGHLANDERS 2007 CHAMPIONS
Dove Hill 3 McMillan’s 5
SCOTTISH DOUBLES
THE pairings of Mick Burke and Shuggie Rice from Armadale along with Coiln Robertson and
Jim Mitchell from Uphall and Dedridge respectivly made it to the final 16 of the Scottish pairs. Both teams went down 2-3
in their final games hard luck maybe but on an other day who knows! Mick and Shug had one dart at a double to win Colin
and Jim had 2 darts to make it through but it was not to be. Perhaps next year who knows who the darting gods will smile on!
GRANGE OPEN MONEY TOURNAMENT
What a collection of dart players were present at the Grange Bar a county team could
be picked from the players in this competition who could put West Lothian on the map!
Two players were on for the magical nine dart games Mick Burke and Colin Robertson
both hit two maximum 180's but both missed the elusive seventh dart but nice to watch darts of this standard fabulous shooting
indeed. On the day Colin Robertson claimed the first prize. And he did it the hard way wins over Jim Mitchell 3-2. Derek Cunningham
3-2. Mick Burke 3-1 and Graham Anderson in the final 3-1.
One special mention must go to young twelve year old Arran ARRY Edwards who gave International
player and former Scottish Master Derek Cunningham a run for his money in the last eight young Arran quite simply is
starting to gain a good reputation as a very hard player to beat you only have to ask the players he took out in the summer
league. This is one young player with the talent to put West Lothian on the map in years to come.
Now quite simply dart competitions can not be played without the help of a lot of people
and the NEW MANAGEMENT in the Grange Bar in Fauldhouse are putting in a lot of hard work to get darts back on the map here
in West Lothian. This was the fourth open competition to be run in the last couple of months and i hope all aspiring
dart players in the area will give this competition a try when the next set of tournaments dates are published.
Like all competitions you have to some one to run them and quite simply with a player of
the calibre of Peter Cameron you have some one who actually understands darts players. Peter will be well known to the older
players in the county being an 'A' team player for many years back in the 80's and early 90's what the county could do with
this man signing a county form again but thats something that can be worked on!
HITTING FORM IN WEST LOTHIAN = MONDAY NIGHT WERE

SEPTEMBER 2008
WHAT DO THESE NAMES HAVE IN COMMON!
Graeme Stoddart/Derek Cunningham/Harry Toddman/Garry Anderson/Gary Robson/Phil Nixon/Scott
Waites/Jamie Bishop/Arran Edwards/Tony Eccles/Davie Richardson page/Jamie Harvey/John Henderson/Willie Laird/Alex Lister/Davie
Lister/Andy Boulton/Tucker Reid/Mike Veitch/Craig Baxter/Martin Aitkens/Andrew Mclean/Andy Murray/Paul Hanvidge/Mark Barrilli/Jim
Mitchell/Stuart Rarttery.
Yes these are just some of the players who entered the Forth Valley Masters on Saturday with
over two thousand pounds in prize money up for grabs the QUESTION is where were all the West Lothian dart players here
was a competition just 45 minutes drive from Livingston with a top prize of £2000.00 and only 4 players from West Lothian
entered what a shame the darts standard was fabulous and just to see some of the worlds top players in action was worth the
entrance money alone. The top two ranked West Lothian players Jim Mitchell and Jamie Bishop along with 12 year old youth
player Arran Edwards and 17 year old Andrew Lefty Mclean were the only ones who tried.
Arran lost in the first round 0-3 Jamie went down 0-3 in a cracker of a match missed the bull
for a 12 dart leg and never got a shot at a double after that. Lefty Mclean let a golden opportunity slip away with a 2-0
lead he just could not finish the game of and went down 2-3. Mitchell got through 3-0/3-0/ before double trouble set in and
lost 0-4 (if any one can find double 8 would they kindly point it out to me)
NEW NAME
Hitting the big check outs has seen a new player make the headlines this week with James
Robertson from the Pumpherston Jacks hitting a very good 109 by the way off 57-20-32 game shot in the K.O. Cup at Mcmillans
Bar on Monday night.
SCOTTISH DOUBLES QUALIFIERS
Breich club on Saturday was a very busy place with some of the very best dart players in
the area all trying to qualify for the Scottish finals in Bannockburn.
Men who made it through were Peter Mcintosh from Uphall+John Grant from Howden / The Armadale
pairing of Shuggie Rice+Micky Burke / Colin Robertson from Uphall+Jim Mitchell of Dedridge. Spare a thought for Billie Meikle
+ Stevie Brown who went down in a thriller of a game darts used were 19-19-13-19-18 the toss of the coin was a real
cruicial factor in this match with every leg going with throw and was'nt Mitchell glad he called heads!
Ladies getting through were Margaret Armstrong from Boghall+ Shona
Main of Craigshill also making their way to the Scottish finals are from Uphall Christine
Mcintosh + Andrea Russell fron Stoneyburn who is other wise known as the Stoneyburn Sorceress who wove her spell on the dart
board finishing in style with a fabulous 92 game shot to over come a very top ladies pairing of Irene Mcinness + Shelly Kearney.
GRANGE
BAR WIN BATHGATE K.O. CUP
The Grange
Bar win the cup with a 5 games to 4 victory over Mcmillans A. Results from the night are

SEMI FINALS

FINAL Grange 5
Mcmillans A 4
Fastest recorded
games were hit by Rab Nelson 15 darts John Kirk 16 darts Jim MItchell 19 darts. Top check out goes to Jamie Bishop with 108 on
the bulls eye.
SPEAR-CHUCKER ON TARGET
The Brigand's may have moved to a new location but that has not stopped one of their
players John Hanlon alias the Spear Chucker from deepest darkest Mid Calder setting the early pace with a cracking 60-60-36
finish in the first round of the K.O. Cup. Interesting to see how long this cracking check out can stay at the top of the
tree.
STILL OUT IN FRONT (but for how long)
But the pack are closing in MrTam Ritchie with a fabulous 154
game shot. Alan Zoko Wilson checks a cracking 143. Bob The
Royal Stuart hits a great 130 finish on the bulls eye.
ALMOST BUT NOT QUITE!
Big Davie Wilson and Gordon The Bruce have tried but failed to take the top check out away
from Spear -chucker.
Two fabulous finishes 149 from The Bruce and a cracking 147 from The Pirate Davie Wilson.
Looks like the darts this season have started in earnest already!
BATHGATE MONEY SINGLES
Grange Bar in Fauldhouse was the venue and with players from nine teams taking part
the standard was very high for an opening singles competition of the season. Making the semi final stages it saw both Jamie
Bishop from the Breich Club and Jimmy Gibson representing Coppies Bar in Armadale both fall at the penultimate hurdle. Making
the final were Rab Nelson from Boness playing for Coppies Bar and Old man Mitchell from Dedridge representing Mcmillans. A
close final encounter but the Old Man just managed to get over the finishing line first to claim the first prize Both
players recieved money and bottles.
Top check ou of the night went to old man Mitchell with a 122 54-54-14. Maximum hitters
only one to report Jim Gibson of Coppies Bar hitting the only 180 of the night. Quickest finishes were Old man Mitchell 16/17/18/19
dart legs and Bob Hall with 2x18 dart games.
SCOTLAND ARISE!
Yes history is in the making The Bruce has arisen from the ashes of the past.Twenty
years ago or so dart players trembled at the sound of his arrows coming out of their case .Now collecting his second singles
title in the past year it has seen Gordon The Bruce take the Dovehill Arms open singles title from another top player
from yester- year Desperate Dan known to his friends as Davie Nisbet. Davie was 2-0 up in the best of seven contest but
the Bruce was not to be denied and not only won the next four legs but took the title on a fabulous 60-57-32 game shot nice
way to finish a final 149 and the first prize.
Once again George Thorburn ran a very good compettion with 30+ of the counties finest
making the effort to claim this the second competition that he has run in the Dovehill. I can only say i hope there
are more missed this one but heard a good time was had by all!
WORLD MASTERS QUALIFIERS (BANNOCKBURN)
Well all of West Lothians players were put to the sword on Saturday Willie Harraughty from
Whitburn put up a good fight but Scottish International Derek Cunningham did not miss much when it came to the doubles end
of the match score sets 0-2. Bob Hall has only himself to blame numerous chances went a begging and eventualy Davie
Hanson took the opportunities that were given score sets 0-2. Shuggie Rice took his first match by a score line of two sets
to nil before running into Scotish International Andy Murray final score Andy 2 Shuggie 0.
Old man Mitchell managed a two sets to nil win in his first match before being soundly thrashed
by Alan Soutar in legs of 15-16-17-19 so an other dream ends but the good thing about darts is there is always a competition
just around the next corner!
K.O. CUP RESULTS
Four games to report so far the Cawburn Gypsys went down 4 games to 5 to the
Commercial Travallers in West Calder. The Gypsys went 3-1 up in the singles only to see the Travallers come back to square
the match 3-3. The Travallers then went into a 4-3 lead as the doubles games started and requiring 1 more game for victory
it only saw the Gypsys take the next match to square it at 4-4. And down the wire it went with the match all square at 4-4
and 1-1 in legs it saw the home team secure the match for a fine 5-4 victory and into the next round the Travallers go.
The West End Renagades were host to the Pumpherston Brigands but home advantage was
not on their side with only former West Lothian county star Big J.J. Walker securing a victory for the home team over
former league singles champion Rab Lees. It saw the Brigands secure a fine 5 games to 1 win and into the next round they
go as well.
Former k.o. cup champions the Dove hill Highwaymen started their campaign off with a very good win over the Almondale Pirates by 6 game to 3 a very good win indeed with the Pirates
having one of the best set ups in the league for dart playing.
The Knights from the Tower Bar took out the Stirrup Stane Cowboys on Monday night.
Which ended up being a double blow to the Stirrup as their 'A' team the Indian's went down to the Mafia team from Polbeth
otherwise known as the The Girdwood clan ably assisted by the Pumpherston Mob this will be a hard team to beat
this season after winning the league two seasons ago third place was not where they wanted to be last year!. This could be
the start of a revival for the Firs Mafia who knows!
BATHGATE LEAGUE
Bathgate league is due to start on Friday the 19th September in the Grange Bar in Fauldhouse
with the K.O. Cup being played off.
Nine teams have joined the friday night league with maybe two more waiting to come on board.

AUGUST 2008
SCOTTISH YOUTH
Nice to see four of West lothians youth players in action on Saturday 30th Aug. Players
in action were Andrew(Lefty) Mclean. Arran (Arry) Edwards. (Big) Frank Quinn and Chris (Mitch) Mitchell.
Andrew and Frank both made it to the semi finals of the under 18's tournament.
Young Arry Edwards at only 12 years of age has with a doubt one of the most impressive weapons
in his armoury that any dart player can have.He can count as fast as most top county players. And when you remember he is
also an under 12's British finalist. Darts in West lothian has some real cracking players here for the future (lets hope
we can keep them)
Chris Mitchell lost both his matches but he gained experience and that is vital in any sport
you have to lose before you can win!
Results Arran played 6 won 3 lost 3/ Andrew played played 7 won 4 lost 3/ Frank
played 5 won 3 lost 2/Chris played 2 lost 2
(now i may have made mistakes but that is as close as i can recall there were 60+
youth players playing and 6 boards in use) so if you no better let me know and i will change the stats!
REGISTRATION NOW COMPLETE!
SUMMER LEAGUE PLAYERS ARE NOW MEMBERS OF THE S.D.A./ B.D.O. AT THE WEST LOTHIAN AREA A.G.M.
THE LEAGUE WAS OFFICIALLY REGISTERED WITH THE WEST LOTHIAN COUNTY. BY LEAGUE ORGANISER ME MYSELF I (jim mitchell)
ALL PLAYERS WHO PLAYED IN THE SUMMER LEAGUE ARE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN ALL SCOTTISH COMPETITIONS.
SUMMER IS OVER.
(Well the summer league that is)
What a night 25 dart players made the final night from the 50 men and 10 ladies
who started out at he beginning of the competition. And believe you me what a show every one of them put on. Quite simply
every player in the final had a chance of winning. Some thing else which was very interesting not one person refused to mark a board when they were eliminated and when you consider that there were only 25
players playing at the start of the night there were 32 people who watched the final at 11.30pm i think that says it
all.
Last years finalists did not make it past the last 16 this year so we were always
guaranteed a new name on the trophy for the men. And what a great match that was with Colin the marshall Robertson from
the Dovehill Highway men taking on Mick Burke from Armadale a player who is used to the big occasions and is also a Lanarkshire
county 'A' player. But tonight belonged to Colin Robertson who went on to win by 7 legs to 4 a fabulous game of darts fom
both players and they most certainly deserved the round of applause they received at the end of the match. A great game
played in superb spirit.
The ladies final had last years runner up Irene Mcinness from Armadale up against
the West Calder leagues ladies champion
Lena Gallagher and an other titanic struggle took place for the honour of being
crowned ladies champion. This time how ever Irene made it second time lucky and went one better than her runners up spot last
year claiming the final by 4 legs to 2.
Lena i hope wont mind me telling people but over twenty years ago she was one of
the top lady players in Scotland when she reached the final of the ladies Scottish masters. And it is only in the last two
seasons she has decided to picked her darts up again and already she has runners up in the summer league and has won
the West Calder ladies title twice.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
Two players stood out neither of them reached a final but on the showing they put up they
must be worth watching over the season to come. Firstly from the ladies section Shona Main who made it to the semi finals
of the ladies tournament she seems to get better and better each time we see her this lady will certainly give Lena a run
for her money come next years ladies singles title race in the West Calder league.
From the mens section this player has been around along time but has been under acheiving
over the last few years but if last nights run was any thing to go by he is back he lost in the semi finals to the eventual
winner but had two darts at double 16 to go to the final when he was 5-5 with Colin. Yes you should have guessed it is
former County Singles Champion The Gabby Cabby Chris Forsyth.
I certainly look forward to seeing how both of these players get on this season as both
have signed county forms for West Lothian.

THE FASTEST RECORDED LEG WAS A 14 DARTER FROM CRAIG C.A.P.A. AGNEW. ALSO SETTING A CRACKING PACE EARLY DOORS WAS JOHN HANLON
WITH 2X18 DART LEGS. COLIN ROBERTSON WAS ON FIRE EARLY DOORS WITH 15+17 DART GAMES AND GORDON BRUCE RECORDED
A 16 DARTER AS WELL. MAXIMUMS WERE RECORDED BY FIN DRUMMOND AND CRAIG AGNEW ALONG WITH OLD MAN MITCHELL HITTING
TWO. BUT WHEN THE DUST HAD SETTLED THERE WERE FOUR MEN LEFT STANDING FROM FOUR DIFFERENT TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE. ON BOARD
ONE IT SAW AN EAST CALDER VERSUS WEST CALDER CONFRONTATION WITH BIG HITTING IAIN MITCHELL FROM THE DOO CLUB FLYERS UP
AGAINST THE COMMERCIAL TRAVALLERS DARTS DYNAMO TOSS LAMMIE. AFTER A TIGHT MATCH IT SAW TOSS MAKING HIS WAY THROUGH TO
THE FINAL. OVER ON BOARD THREE IT SAW MID CALDERS JOHN SPEAR-CHUCKER HANLON FROM THE TAP SHOP BRIGANDS UP AGAINST OLD
MAN MITCHELL FROM DEDRIDGE A MCMILLANS HIGHLANDER. A TIGHT MATCH ONCE AGAIN BUT JUST PREVAILING IT SAW THE OLD
MAN GO THROUGH TO FACE TOSS LAMMIE IN THE LEAGUE SINGLES FINAL. WITH BOTH PLAYERS HAVING GREAT SUPPORT FROM THE BODY OF THE
HALL WHICH AT MIDNIGHT STILL HAD AT LEAST 40-50 PEOPLE STAYING ON TO WATCH. IT SAW THE OLD MAN TAKE THE TITLE. BOTH THESE
PLAYERS PLAY WITH THEIR HEART ON THEIR SLEEVES AND QUITE SIMPLY ON THE NIGHT THE WINNER WITH OUT A DOUBT WAS.
THE SPORT OF DARTS
IT COULD ALL HAVE BEEN SO DIFFERENT IF ONLY GORDON DRYSDALE HAD HIT THE DOUBLE 5
FIRST MATCH AGAINST OLD MAN MITCHELL WHO KNOWS WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED THEN SO MANY IFS IN THIS WORLD WE JUST DONT KNOW BUT
THAT IS DARTS FOR YOU.
BULLS EYE

OF THE SEASON WELL PLAYED.
RAB MAIN FROM THE STIRRUP STAIN AND CRAIG AGNEW FROM MCMILLANS BOTH RECORD

WHAT A BELTER
CAN I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SAY WELL DONE TO
WHITBURNS SHELLEY KEARNEY
ON WINNING THE EAST HOUSES OPEN SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
TITLE. BEATING SCOTTISH LADIES CAPTAIN LOUISE HEPBURN IN THE FINAL.
TOP CHECK OUTS THIS WEEK GO TO

24TH MAY.
IN ATTENDANCE IT SAW SOME OF WEST LOTHIANS TOP PLAYERS CHALLENGING FOR THE TITLE
WITH BOTH THE TOP THREE PLAYERS IN THE COUNTY 'A' AVERAGES AND THE TOP THREE RANKED 'B' TEAM PLAYERS FOR THE MEN IN
ATTENDANCE.
THERE WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE SOME VERY HIGH SCORING MATCHES.
BUT TOP OF THE TREE WAS SHOTTS DARTS DYNAMO JOCKY MCLAREN THE TOP COUNTY PLAYER
IN THE 'B' COUNTY LEAGUE FOR ALL OF SCOTLAND. AND BREICHS VERY OWN JAMIE BISHOP WHO WAS THE
SECOND RANKED PLAYER IN THE WEST LOTHIAN COUNTY 'A' TEAM THIS SEASON. JOCKY HAD CHECK OUTS OF 90+110 IN THE FINAL
AND JAMIE HIT THE FINAL DOUBLE 16 GIVING THEM THE THE TITLE OF SUPER LEAGUE DOUBLES CHAMPIONS FOR 2008.
RUNNERS UP WERE THE LIVINGSTON PAIRING OF CRAIG C.A.P.A. AGNEW FROM HOWDEN

26 YEARS OF COUNTY 'A' TEAM DARTS FROM DEDRIDGE. PLAYERS MAKING THE SEMI FINALS WERE SHUGGIE AND MICKY RICE
TWO BROTHERS WHO BOTH WEAR THEIR HEARTS ON THEIR SLEEVES WHEN IT COMES TO REPRESENTING THE COUNTY AND ARE SEEN AT JUST ABOUT

MAY 2008
GROUNDHOG DAY
THE LEAGUE DOUBLES WAS A CRACKING NIGHT OF DARTS WITH NO FEWER THAN 42 TEAMS TAKING
PART. SOME FANTASTIC SHOOTING FROM SO MANY GOOD PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE. BUT AT THE FINAL HURDLE WE WERE BACK TO WHERE WE WERE
5 MONTHS AGO WITH THE SAME TWO DOUBLES TEAMS LEFT STANDING AT THE OCKY.
THE TITLE HOLDERS LEAGUE PAIRS CHAMPIONS DRYBOURGH AND MITCHELL
WERE TRYING TO DEFEND THEIR TITLE FROM LAST SEASON.BUT THEY WERE UP AGAINST THE DOUBLES TEAM THAT THEY BEAT IN THE FINAL
OF THE MATCH PLAY PAIRS. ONLY THIS TIME THE ROLLS WERE REVERSED WITH THE TAP SHOP PAIRING OF JOHN SPEAR CHUCKER
HANLON AND GORDON THE BRUCE MAKING NO MISTAKES AND TAKING THE FINAL IN STYLE. BOTH OF THESE TEAMS HAD MOMENTS
THROUGH OUT THE NIGHT WHEN DEFEAT STARED THEM IN THE FACE BUT IT IS NEVER OVER TILL THE FAT LADY SINGS AS THEY SAY. AND AT
THE END BOTH PAIRS SHOWED THAT THEIR FIRST PAIRS FINAL WAS NO FLUKE.
AFTER SECURING THE VICTORY THE CROWD WAS ENTERTAINED BY GORDON THE BRUCE DOING HIS
RITUAL CELEBRITY DANCE THIS I BELIEVE IS A FIRST FOR THE LEAGUE BUT IT SEEMS THAT IT ORIGINATES FROM SOME
WHERE SOUTH OF DEEPEST DARKEST MID CALDER IN A PLACE CALLED THE BRIGANDS DEN (TAP SHOP) TO THE REST OF THE LEAGUE. LOOK FORWARD
TO MORE MOVES ON THE DANCE FLOOR COME THE PRESENTATION NIGHT. THIS EVENT ALONE SHOULD PUT THE DEMAND FOR TICKETS THROUGH
THE ROOF ESPECIALLY IF HIS PARTNER IN DARTS SPEAR CHUCKER HIM SELF TAKES TO THE FLOOR.
WELL PLAYED TO JOHN AND GORDON YOU WERE SUPERB.

WINNING BY TWO LEGS TO ONE.THE OTHER SEMI FINAL WAS A GOOD HIGH SCORING MATCH BUT JUST SAW OLD MAN MITCHELL GET PAST BILLY
BY TWO LEGS TO NIL.
THE FINAL SAW ONE OF THE FINEST YOUTH PLAYERS IN THE COUNTRY UP AGAINST ONE OF WEST
LOTHIANS MOST EXPERIENCED PLAYERS BUT THE WAY THE MATCH STARTED YOU WOULD NOT HAVE GUESSED IT. FRANK MADE SHORT WORK OF THE
FIRST LEG WITH A CRACKING 17 DART LEG BUT THE OLD ONE LEVELED THE MATCH WITH AN 18 DART GAME OF HIS OWN. IN THE NEXT LEG IT
SAW MITCHELL TAKE THE THROW FROM FRANK AND IT LOOKED GOOD FOR MITCHELL AT TWO LEGS TO ONE UP. BUT FRANK WAS AWAY WITH
ALWAYS ONE OF HIS THREE DARTS IN THE TREBLE TWENTY WITH HIS FIRST FOUR THROWS IN LEG FOUR BUT A STUTTER AT THE END LET MITCHELL
BACK IN AND SAW THE OLD MAN TAKE OUT 64 FOR THE GAME WITH A TREBLE 8 AND DOUBLE TOP FOR THE LEAGUE SINGLES TITLE.
